The ChampionsDorks of Kaposia

Last night the hubster and I decided to try out suck at the sport of disc golf. I had never heard of it till I moved to Minnesota. But basically it is golf with a frisbee rather than a ball and club. The above photo has been taken from a disc golf site, we aren't any where near this impressive.

We went to a park close by called Kaposia. You can see here what the course looks like.

It started easy enough. The first "hole" is right by the parking lot. And WAY off in the trees we could see the basket. The guys before us whipped their discs off into the air straight and steady and far. And two throws later their discs dropped into the basket.

Now the hubster and I were up. Following the guys before us I took a hop and flicked by disc with all my might. Up UP UP and away it went. Curving dramatically to the left and landing an impressive 300 10 feet in front of me. Now it was the hubsters turn. He took his hop and with his strong manly arms his disc went far and steady right into the tree in front of him.

And 5 throws later we were still trying to get close to the basket. But we laughed and galloped all the way.

The first 4 holes were fun and relatively "easy" for us. Grant you the par three holes took us more like 7-10 but whose counting?

And then for whatever crazy ass reason the path to the next hole went off into the woods. Of course we assumed rather naively that we would emerge out into another field of lovely grass. But we were wrong. The next few holes were deep in the woods with a simple winding hiking path between us and the basket. Who the hell thinks it's a good idea to throw a frisbee into the woods? I mean seriously? Will you look at this! Somewhere way past this photo is where the basket is. Who does this????

Well, the guys ahead of us whipped their discs straight and true into the air and damned if they didn't land 10 feet from the basket. (which keep in mind you can't see) And as the hubster whipped his disc deep into the overgrown woods I suddenly understood what "It's a good idea to post a spotter mid-way through several holes" meant. It also became clear why: 1. the discs are bright neon colors. and 2. why the people playing had bags full of discs.

So, several short and pathetic tosses later we emerged from the woods and found once again a grassy playing area with the basket at the end of the field. The hubster was up, he hopped, he whipped and then watched his disc fly high and wide over the field, over the fence, and on to the bank next to the freeway. It was our proudest moment.

Well, we gave up after 9 baskets. For one I was itchy from root'n around in the brush for my disc. Apparently there is poison som'n or rather growing out there. And we were a little exhausted from all the impressive pathetic disc flinging. All that extra disc searching sightseeing had tuckered us out.

But we had a blast and we plan to go back regularly this summer. It really was fun.

Oh, and AND we were trying to figure out where the next basket was and two guys resting on a bench kindly helped us out. They were both pretty cute but of course I was totally embarrassed since I was putting everyone to shame entertaining everyone with my stellar skills. Anyway, one of them asked me what my tattoo was of. I told them a phoenix. And the guy said it was really cool. So I got my first random public compliment.

To finish off the evening I got a call from the locals Shriners group. They asked me to be at their fund raiser for the hospital. This year they are not only having a classic car show but they are adding craft booths and they wanted 30 of the "best" local and willing crafters to participate. So August 5th I will be displaying my wares at the "Big Red Barn" in Cottage Grove. Come one Come all! It's going to be a fun time!

Have a great day!

Discovering the past

In the past couple of years I have become a fan of the classic film. And I have fallen completely in love with Carey Grant, Audrey Hepburn, and so many others. This weekend we watched two of Grant's films: Night and Day which told the story of Cold Porter, and some of The Touch of Mink. Both were enjoyable. The costumes in Night and Day were spectacular. I found myself wishing to live in a time when people dressed for dinner and wore evening gowns and tuxedos to just about every event short of grocery shopping. Just think of all the shoes I would need :-)
Anyway, aside from The Simpsons, and 24 I have pretty much decided that TCM is the channel for me and it runs 24/7 in this house. Ok, so once in a while we tune in to Mythbusters. I'll admit that.

And while I am talking about tv shows I did catch two episodes this weekend of Gay, Straight, or Taken. I can only say it was interesting. It was sort of like watching a train wreck. And once I started I had to wait and see how it all turned out. I was thinking of Scott during the show. Those boys would be fine photography subjects. Let me tell you. The first show I watched the boys all took their shirts off. Um, well, yum. And they were all cute and physically fit as hell.

Ok, so aside from a guilty moment or two of trash tv I also started The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards. Page 119 and so far so wonderful. I am really enjoying this story.

And that's about it. It snowed here all day. The Bears won the playoffs! Unfortunately at blog time the Colts have one hell of an uphill battle on their hands. But my fingers are crossed. At least we don't have to spend the Super Bowl hearing about Cinderella stories and overcoming adversity. It's early in the third quarter so my fingers are crossed. Go Manning! And Tony - you coached one hell of a team!

Monday Mayhem

RUSH RUSH RUSH

Have to get to work for a meeting at 8. Has anyone ever tried to get MY hubster out the door early? It’s impossible. I even dragged my sorry ass out of bed at 5:30 this morning to try to help the process along. I was shooting for a 7:15 leave time. We got out the door at 7:35. I arrived at work at 7:50. So I had just enough time to go up to my office, change shoes, de-fur my clothing and run upstairs for the meeting.

This did not give me time to get REAL coffee for a four hour meeting. Yes 4 hour meeting. All I had was the swill in the pot here at work. And that is NOT a good thing.

DAMN DAMN DAMN

How is it that I have nothing to do 364 days a year. But then there comes one day, one night actually in which all good things that I would love and enjoy doing all happen at once.?????

The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra is giving this amazing concert of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy this coming Saturday at the absolutely incredible St. Mary’s Basiclica in Minneapolis. We bought tickets in February. And it has since sold out. It’s one of those once in a lifetime sorts of concert spectaculars!

But then I was looking at when I could go see a new gallery show at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. And they are having a gala evening with wine, food, dancing, etc. all surrounding this art show. It’s after hours. It’s all adults. And because we joined the museum it wouldn’t cost us anything. A perfect adult evening. But, yes, it is on Saturday night.

And now, my boss just emails me and asks me if I wanted to go to the Wild game. There are two tickets available. And these aren’t just tickets. They are seats in the company box. The very exclusive, very good view, very NEVER going to be offered again to me club seats.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

At Victoria’s secret they have these nightshirts. It’s a long sleeve sleepshirt and I am in love. I got one a few weeks ago and I have been living in it. I picked up another one last night and let me tell you, it was very hard to get out of bed this morning. Go out and treat yourself girlfriends! They are $22.50, they are located on tables right when you walk into a store. They are wrapped up with ribbon. And they really are FABULOUS!
Oh, and they run big (too big). So go a size down from what you normally wear.

CALEB CALEB CALEB

My little boy decided to revert back to day one this morning. We couldn’t go near him. And he wouldn’t go near us. I have no idea what caused this set back. He has been doing so well. I am confident that he will be okay when we get home. But this morning he didn’t want to play ball. And he always plays ball with me in the morning. And he wouldn’t go outside to go potty. Nor would he come in once we got him out. It’s very odd. But just like Lily bounced back from her weird day I am sure he will too.

MEME's from Jay and other ramblings

10 days till the hubster returns!

Hockey game was loads of fun! There is one big problem with sitting on the club level though. Food is hella expensive. Damn. They have a buffet up there. I kid you not, $32.95 per person. Who has that kind of money????? When you spend $85.00 per ticket. And you go to several games. Seriously, who can blow this kind of cash?
I'm just curious. But on the good side, the Wild won their pre-season match agains Detroit. It was a pretty fun game to watch. And the goalies on both sides did a bang up job. Defending some 20+ shots on goal. It was an impressive night. We even got a fight.

I watched a movie yesterday that surprisingly I kinda liked. It was Phone Booth. I borrowed it from Girl J. It was out a few years ago and stars Colin Farrell as the poor guy who answers a ringing phone in a booth in New York. Keifer Sutherland is exceptional as the "voice" on the other end of the phone. The movie went by rather quickly, in fact it wrapped up and the credits rolled before I thought they would.

Heartfelt thanks

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts and words over yesterday's post.

11 Days till the hubster returns.

Dog dilemma still unsolved but we'll get it figured out.

I watched an interesting movie last night. It's called June Bug. And it is about a couple from Chicago that go down south to meet with an artist that she thinks would be a great discovery and boon for her art gallery. While down there they go to his family's home. His family is from a small town in the south, they don't have extensive educations, nor do they have glamorous high paying jobs. The story is about the family meeting the beautiful, kind, intelligent, and seemingly glamorous new daughter in law. The movie is like a lot of good indy films. It tells a story, the editing and cinematography are far more basic than your normal blockbuster. But I think everyone that sees it can relate in some way to what goes on in the story. This is not action packed, and at times it moves a bit slowly, but I found myself fascinate, frustrated, encouraged, and angered by the characters in the film. And to me that is a good film.

My dad was the one that told me to watch the film. I talked with him last night and let him know that I had it. He said, oh good, and when you are done call me, or call me tomorrow and tell me what characters you liked. I thought it was a strange thing for him to fixate on, that is, until I actually watched it. And just when I thought I knew who I liked and who I didn't the characters would do something to alter my impression.

Tonight I am going to the Wild pre-season game. It should be fun. My friend Boy J got tickets from his future father-in-law. They are on the club level. This will be very cool. All the good food and drink are on the club level but of course access is restricted. One of these days I'm going to figure out how to score tickets in the company suite and then I can return the favor and take Boy J to a game.

To cute: My lil Sophie girl is "sleeping" while her kitty Soc's is laying on top of her and cleaning her. He's actually laying all the way across her back. She's just laying there with her eyes closed. He's cleaning her ears, her head, her bum. He's too cute.

Yeah, I know, if I only had a digital to capture the moment for everyone.

Cheers!
